♥ A Tiny Piece of Cade ♥

While we wait for what I have planned next, I thought I would give you all a little treat.  Here is a very short piece from the revised Cade project.  LOL  I love this scene.  :)  Enjoy.

XOXO NIGHT TEMPEST

P.S. This wasn't edited yet.  Forgive all craziness.  Thanks.

Knox and Dan shared a look.  Dan narrowed his eyes.  “Not a kid’s meal, a six-piece—”

“Get a load of this shit, Dave.”  The prick inside kept his mic on as he ignored us.  What a big mistake.  “This jerkoff wants a kid’s meal with no sauce.  What a pervert, probably into kids or something.”

“Yeah,” a lower voice agreed. “What a pervert.”  They laughed.

Knox’s face went red, but he kept his fangs in check.  The last thing we needed was to end up on the nine-o-clock news as monsters who stormed the Quick Burger, killing two greasy stoners because they called Dan a pedophile.  But knowing what I did about Knox, he wasn’t going to let this go, capable of self-control or not.  Dan was equally irate, having sat back down with his diva-stunner eyes set to destroy.

“Keep your cool, boys,” Micah said.

Knox either didn’t hear him, or chose not to.  He punched the gas, practically flying the SUV to the open, checkout window, where a scrawny teen boy in a striped, Quick Burger polo waited with dilated eyes behind innocent looking glasses.

“Think you’re funny?”  Knox reached through the open window, successfully fisting his hand around the front of the boy’s shirt.  He pulled until the employee was yanked through the little opening, scared shitless for his life.  The kid wheezed.  His eyes were so big he looked like one of those anime characters.

“N-No, sir.”

“Sir?”  Knox grinned.  “Scared, boy?”

“Ye-Yes, sir.”

“Good.  Now this is how it’s going down.  You’re gonna go and get me three number ones with coke, and a six-piece motherfucking nugget combo, not the pedophile special.  And if you spit in my food, or give me and my friends any more lip, I’m going to shove my foot so far up your ass, you’re going to taste the shit on the sole of my boot.  Got it?”

“Oh my God.”  The teen shook.

“Not God, bitch, the devil.” Knox pushed the kid back, letting his head smack on the window.  “Move it!”

“Ye-Yes, sir,” the kid squeaked, rubbing the back of his head.  “Dave, get me fries,” he all but yelled.

What we assumed was Dave, a chubby kid with his QB visor on backwards, stood by the counter, letting his customer’s bag drop to the ground in fear. His mouth opened and he backed up.  Knox leered, tapping his fingers on the dash, never breaking eye contact.

“Shit,” Dave swore softly, but we all heard.  “Yeah, man.  I got your fries.”  We watched him hustle over to the fryer before peeking his head around the corner every few seconds as he gathered his part of the order.

Four-eyes ran around, wrapping burgers, shoving things into bags, and multi-tasking at the soda dispenser until sweat broke out over his pimply forehead.  As all of this was going down, Dan had his arms crossed over his chest with a smug smile.  If there was one thing Knox and Dan could agree on, it was revenge.  I was about to scold Knox, just a little, but my phone started to buzz in my jacket.  Thinking it was Nina finally giving us some info on Rowe, I answered without looking at the screen.

  10. Very cool! Thanks for the unexpected treat! I LOVE your writing! I noticed it is in first person. You may have addressed this before and I missed a post (Sorry)! Is "Cade" a rewrite of the original with modifications and in 1st person or is it an entirely new work?

    1. Cade was originally the length of a novella and I'm expanding it - while sticking with the same story - into a complete novel. It was always written in first person, as is the next book in the series. After those two stories is when I switched POV, but I had to due to the nature of the plot. Sorry for the confusion. :)

  11. Having Cade in first person was important so we got to know the complete story and his every reaction to it. He is the "Original" so it makes sense it all startex with him.

But in the second story in the series D & R I love love loved that you made it a multi person POV it let us all see inside the other characters heads and get to know them better. Plus most of their inner thoughts are funnier than shit. I like that you have kept on with the mulri POV.
