Amateur Spotlight: Interview With Ms. Lilly Bleu

Hello everyone!! Tonight I’m featuring one our fellow bloggers, Ms. Lilly Bleu from Lillybleu.blogspot.com! For this Blogs of Note I thought I’d do something a little different. So, I asked Lilly a few questions in what is now called: Amateur Spotlight!

What made you want to write?

I have always loved to read, ever since I was little. I was the kid with her head buried in a book all the time!  I even got in trouble for it! I would read when I was supposed to be studying, eating, sleeping- doing math homework haha.  I couldn't get over how much could be in a book.  The adventures the characters were having were much more exciting than multiplication tables and spelling tests, which may be why I am still horrible at spelling.  With all these wonderful characters and worlds swirling constantly in my head, I couldn't help but make up my own.  They became really hard to keep track of so I began writing them down to keep them separate.  Writing was the best way for me to do this, because I don't really picture things- I describe them to myself in words.  I tried drawing, but I am really, really horrible at drawing.  Writing seemed the perfect outlet for my crazy daydreams and night-dreams haha.  Writing them down helps me make (a little tiny bit) sense out of them. Though, I am still working on that.  Writing also is a fun way to practice my cursive :)

LOL that makes one of us! I’ve become so accustomed to typing that my handwriting looks terrible! If I do write, it is in cursive. So we have that in common. I know another love we have in common and that’s music. Since we’ve talked about this before, why don’t you share with the readers what music really does it for you when writing. Pretty please?

I am just as all over the place with music as I am with everything else.  My playlists have everything from Bach to Paolo Nutini. From Audioslave to the Civil Wars, and lots more! Even the Numa Numa song slips in sometimes.  Though when I am really "in the zone”, I usually listen to calmer music.  Some of my current favorites are "The Violet Hour" by Civil Wars, "Angelica"  by Lamb, "Above and Below" by the Bravery (there are so many story ideas in this one), "Almost Lover" by a Fine Frenzy, "Army Dreamers"  by Kate Bush, "Avatar" and "Dragonfly" by Universal Hall Pass, "Show Me How to Live" by Audioslave, anything by Philip Glass and almost anything by Apocalyptica- and many, many more! I love music, and I wish I could play it myself.  It is just so inspiring and there are so many dimensions and different kinds. I find something new I like everyday. ( I could go on, but I will spare you lol. )

Psh. I could go on about music for days, but I hope you guys out there picked up a few tunes to download tonight. *Laughs* Now speaking of writing—I mean that’s what we’re here for, right—would you mind sharing why you chose to write M/M romance?

Why M/M?  Good question! A very good question actually, I don't quite know myself haha.  There are different possible reasons. I mean, I stumbled across the genre a few years ago.  I actually started with MA Church/ Nomoretears "The Harvest" and it really pulled me in! How could it not?  From there I looked for similar stories, and I didn't find any.  But, I did find others I liked.  I think one of the reasons I like M/M is the difference in every relationship.  I have found in many M/F romances- especially the novels, there seems to be a formula.  There are of course variations and exceptions to the rule, but I haven't found it in M/M, or I just haven't figured it out yet.  I also like how there is such an emotional depth.  A lot of people seem to think guys don't have deep feelings, which I think is rather ridiculous! *laughs* Also M/M is hot.  Really what other reasons does anyone need :)?  Also (a little secret) it is fun to guess who will end up on top, and it is so fun to be wrong! There a just so many great dynamics, but really the people who write it make it worth it to read, and they inspired me to try my hand at writing it.

That’s awesome, Lilly. It’s always a good thing to hear when an author has inspired someone to try their hand at writing. It’s honestly the best compliment one could receive. :D But Lilly darling, what do you do when you aren’t writing? I know most readers think we live at our computers—and you wouldn’t be far off with that assumption, but what do you like to do? School, hobbies, paper route? LOL.

I am a student (Swarthmore College woot woot!) so when I am not writing I am usually... writing. Or this past semester doing statistics, which was terrible! Thank god I am done with that :). Right now I am baking- It should not be in the 90s at night, oven+heat=ugh!  I also dance (ballet) 5-7 days a week, but this summer I have been lazy.  I have only gone once!  But I have been doing some Zumba which is great booty shaking fun haha.  I am also going to try my hand at babysitting.  We will see how that one goes..

I love Zumba! Haha, booty shaking. *Night shakes her head* Sounds like you’re a Renaissance woman! Good for you. :D Here we go, last question and I thought I’d shake it up a bit. Get it, shake it up…Zumba…anyone??? No? *sigh* Okay, it was bad I know. Alright, alright here we go. Are you a vampires or werewolves kind of girl?

This is actually a difficult question for me.  I'll talk you through a bit of my reasoning.  I was always a vamp girl, forever and always, werewolves have always seemed so hairy! And vampirism seems so elegant and clean.  But, when reading some books, it is impossible to root for the vampire, and in others, like Laurel K Hamilton's Anita Blake books, I want both, or rather all! In that world there is no way I could possibly choose! But all in all, at the end of the day, and a few more cliches- I would have to go with vampires.

And there you have it folks, another point for vampires and no. Not those sparkly things. LOL. Thanks so much Lilly for a wonderful interview. It was nice having you and I hope to see more of your work soon. :D
